Lausanne (SUI), 7 October 2021
A Virtual Media Centre will be introduced at the FIG Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships 2021 in Kitakyushu (JPN) later this month.
As a response to the global coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent travel restrictions, the FIG, together with the local organising committee and FIG Broadcast Partner Eurovision Sport (EBU), have designed a Virtual Media Centre to allow worldwide media to produce dedicated coverage of the events remotely.
This browser-based platform will allow accredited international media representatives to watch all the live action and consume all the usual content that would normally be available in the physical media centre at international sport events.
An innovative solution for remote coverage
EBU’s Virtual Media Centre (VMC) is an integrative platform where accredited media will be able to access various services simultaneously, whether from their home or another remote workplace, creating working conditions as similar as possible to being at the championships themselves. It aims to provide a robust and engaging media service in a single online location in order to compensate media unable to be present in Japan.
The VMC is available with standard internet access and requires no specific hardware or dedicated connectivity from the users.
Available services in the Virtual Media Centre:
· Watch live streams (international feeds)
· Watch live streams (isolated cameras)
· Watch live interviews with top athletes
· Access to live results
· Virtual Media Room – VMR (with the ability to conduct remote interviews with selected athletes)
· Event information and publications
· Media banks and photo galleries
Media registration
VMC access will be offered to members of the international media from outside Japan wishing to cover the FIG Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships 2021 in Kitakyushu remotely. They can now register via https://media.gymnastics.sport. This service allows journalists to interact directly with athletes via audio and video connections.
The deadline to apply for media accreditation is Wednesday 13 October. Only complete applications submitted within the announced deadline will be considered. Applicants will be notified by email if their request has been accepted or rejected. Further information on how to access and use the Virtual Media Centre will be provided to the accepted media. |
